I believe the step 3 is where you are failing. I am fairly certain that you are missing the iscsitarget parameter.

If you are on ESXi 4.1 there is a whole new way to do what you want to do.
To start with you’ll need to download the vCenter Converter interface. I’m using VMWare Workstation and it had some issues with my older vCenter 3.0 so I used VirtualBox Workstation to try it out.
The interface downloaded as a.ova and was a little bit strange to drag to the vSphere client. I think that the older vCenter versions will install the.ova and allow you to access it using the VMWare vSphere Client.
Once you have vCenter Converter you need to download the latest version of ESXi that is compatible with the vSphere client and can be installed on your server(ESXi 5.1 is the latest).
During the install of ESXi there is a wizard that you can select for the host type and also a target name.
Once ESXi is installed you install vCenter Converter and confirm the previous steps.
Right click on the vCenter Converter interface and select install to a folder.
Open that folder and install the.ova there.
To begin converting you need to launch the interface.
Once that’s done you can run the convert operations on all of your ESXi’s.
On ESXi hosts you need to be logged in with an account with root permissions.
On vCenter you need to be logged in with an account that is a vCenter owner and has permissions to connect to remote
