HotMouse is a small, handy piece of software that allows you to scroll
through windows in windows with the mouse wheel, without having to
click on the windows first. It also gives you the ability to scroll
windows that don’t natively support it, and for any windows you have
opened without leaving them. HotMouse was designed to automatically
go off the screen, or below the screen if no mouse is present, so that
you don’t have to leave the window you’re in.

HotMouse will also remember your scroll speeds for individual windows,
and the speed you have set. If you’re in a window that would normally
be scrolled by 30 lines and you need to scroll only five, you can set
HotMouse to scroll five lines with each mouse wheel click, or you can
scroll 30 lines with a click, but HotMouse will remember your previous
setting for the next window.

HotMouse 3.1 will work with your preferences files in either Windows or
Mac, (just remember to always use the hots-fileswin directory in either
case), but the Mac version will not be able to scroll the mouse wheel
and one character at a time. The Mac version uses the magic incantations
that will let you control HotMouse in either case. All you need to
do is press ctrl-z, then ctrl-r to launch HotMouse.

HotMouse 3.1 is compatible with Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP and 2003.
The Mac version is only compatible with Mac OS 8.x and 9.x, but I haven’t
tested it on 10.x.

HotMouse 3.1 is currently distributed via a fully compatible
Finder-friendly installer. This means you can just drag it to
the Applications folder from wherever it is installed in the
system. The installer will take care of everything for you. If you
install HotMouse, you will have to move your Application Support folder
somewhere else, such as to the desktop, if you don’t want to put it
there. This is because the installer drops HotMouse.app and the app
support folder in the same place. Once you have everything installed,
you may want to move the app support folder to the desktop, just like
you do with any other application that puts things in the Applications
folder
